9-8-8: New Nationwide Mental Health Hotline

Oconee County resident Hal Dunlap spoke recently to the Westminster Rotary Club to highlight a new, nationwide three digit number to call for emergency mental health assistance. The number is 988…

Hal Dunlap and his wife, Lynn, established the non-profit organization “Making My Mark” in 2018 after they lost their 35 year-old son to suicide. The group’s mission is to reduce stigma associated with suicide, to promote awareness of suicide prevention resources, and to encourage young people to seek help.

Since launching Making My Mark, Hal has spoken to thousands of young people in schools and has brought Making My Mark’s message of awareness and help to dozens of church and business groups. Again, the new nationwide emergency mental health assistance number is 988.
