9/11 Remembrance Event

The 2013 “Cry Out America” 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and Prayer Service will be held today at noon on the steps of the Pickens County Courthouse. “The public, businesses, government agencies, schools and churches are encouraged to take an hour to come together on this historic day that changed our lives and the world forever.  As we remember the horrific events twelve years ago, we want to not only honor those nearly 3,000 Americans who lost their lives that day, but to unite in a shared voice of prayer to bring healing to America and to get help bring us out of the incredible mess we are in,” said Rev. Tony Edwards, Pickens County coordinator and pastor of Gap Hill Church of God near Six Mile. This is the sixth year of the “Cry Out America” grassroots effort and was observed last year in all 50 states with hundreds of thousands or people responding at noon in the public square and other public places, Edwards said. Participating ministers for the observance in Pickens County include: Pastor Rick Lee, Eastside Baptist, Liberty; Pastor Boyce Whitman, Gap Hill Baptist Church, Six Mile; Pastor John Brown, Lenhart Christian Fellowship, Easley; Pastor Ken Walden, Faith Lutheran Church, Pickens; Pastor Arnold Beard, Pickens View Wesleyan, Pickens; Pastor Kevin Pires, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Pickens; Pastor James McCoy-Bruce, Grace United Methodist Church, Pickens, Pastor Nath Briley, Pickens Presbyterian Church, Chaplain Wayne Morton, South Carolina Air National Guard, and Edwards. The theme of the event is Psalm 33:12: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
