Anderson Co. Deputy shoots Man trying to run him over with Stolen Car

An Anderson County deputy is on administrative leave while the State Law Enforcement Division investigates a shooting Thursday in Piedmont.  Authorities say an Anderson County deputy shot and injured a man who he said tried to run him over.  According to the incident report, the deputy got out to approach a red pickup truck sitting in the middle of Archie Street.  A black vehicle was sitting in a driveway and the driver of that vehicle put it in reverse, tried to back up, and drive over the officer. At that time, the deputy fired several rounds. One of the shots hit 27-year-old Billy Joe Crane, who investigators said was the driver. Deputies learned the black vehicle was stolen.  Crane was taken to the hospital while his passenger 29-year-old Jeremiah Holdbrooks was arrested on outstanding warrants for numerous traffic charges. Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said the deputy was investigating the recent theft of four-wheelers from the area.
