Anderson County Council, American Outlaws to Expand Wellington Park Recreation
Anderson County, S.C. (April 1, 2022) – Tomorrow, April 2nd, at 1 pm at Wellington Park, 4010 Calvert Street, Anderson, representatives from Anderson County, the Over Under Initiative, American Outlaws Anderson Chapter, and other community groups will dedicate the new basketball/soccer facility and name the ballfield at Wellington Park after longtime recreation icon Jackie Ray Poore, Sr. Members of the back-to-back 4A state champion Westside High School girls’ basketball team, as well as the Greenville Triumph/Liberty professional soccer teams, will be on-hand as well.
Brock Elder, president of the Anderson chapter of the American Outlaws, said “The American Outlaws are very proud to bring this to Anderson County. This has been an awesome opportunity to partner with the County to do something special, to make sports accessible for all the kids in the area.” He continued, “This is the first totally new court this organization has installed, first in the Southeast.”
“We are honored to work with our partners to bring this state-of-the-art facility to our community,” said Councilman Glenn Davis. Council Chairman Tommy Dunn said, regarding the park improvements, “Improvements at this park have been long overdue, and to have it happen at this level of quality, we are thrilled.” “We are proud to name the ballfield after Jackie Ray Poore, Sr., someone so important in the development of recreational opportunities in Anderson County,” added Councilman Ray Graham.
The improvements at Wellington Park continue the years-long focus and investment County Council have been making in Homeland Park and in parks across the County.
