Anderson Man Charged with Kidnapping and Armed Robbery

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing today that eight arrest warrants have been served on an Anderson County man in relation to a December 2020 Walhalla area armed robbery.

28 year old Joshua Allen McCurley of Highway 187 was transported from the Anderson County Detention Center to the Oconee County Detention Center yesterday by a deputy from the Warrants Division. McCurley was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 11:04am.

McCurley was served eight outstanding arrest warrants on charges of Armed Robbery Armed with a Deadly Weapon, Assault and Battery – 3rd Degree, Kidnapping, Petit Larceny, Driving under Suspension, Failure to Stop for a Blue Light, Reckless Driving and Use of a Tag Registered to Another Vehicle. At this time, McCurley remains in custody at the Detention Center on a combined $48,865.00 surety bond.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release on December 29th of last year announcing the arrest of four area individuals, two men and two women, on multiple charges related to an armed robbery at a residence in the Rock Crusher Road area of Walhalla. The arrests occurred on Sunday, December 27th, 2020.

According to the release, 44 year old Kenric Lamont Heard of Hartwell, Georgia, 37 year old Michele Elizabeth Elgin of West Oak Highway in Westminster, and 28 year old Audrina Marie Rich of Persimmon Road in Townville were arrested and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center, where they were served with arrest warrants charging them with one count each of Armed Robbery with a Weapon, Kidnapping and Petit Larceny. Rich and Elgin were charged additionally with Assault and Battery – 3rd Degree while Heard was charged additionally with Pointing and Presenting a Firearm. McCurley was taken into custody at that time by Anderson County Deputies after a pursuit led into their county. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office possessed outstanding felony warrants for McCurley and a hold was placed on McCurley by Oconee County Deputies for all of the above charges.

According to the release, deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to a residence on Rock Crusher Road during the morning hours of December 27th and made contact with the victim, who stated one of the suspects held a gun on him while others assaulted him and stole property from inside his residence. The victim was able to give a description of the vehicles and their direction of travel, where Oconee deputies located them a short time later near the Westminster city limits.

When deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicles, one fled the area, leading to a pursuit that continued into Anderson County, where ACSO deputies deployed stop sticks, assisting in the apprehension of two of the suspects, which included McCurley. The other vehicle was pulled over in the area of Highway 11 and West-Oak Highway, where shortly before stopping deputies witnessed a pistol thrown out of the passenger side window. Deputies retrieved the weapon shortly after identifying and detaining the other two suspects.

Oconee County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 28 year-old Joshua Allen McCurley on Tuesday around 11:00am. The Anderson resident was charged with Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Third Degree Assault and Battery, Petit Larceny and numerous traffic related offenses.

He was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center and his bond was set at more than $48,000.
