Applesauce Recall for Products Sold in Carolinas

WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree Pouches, sold at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores in the Carolinas, have been linked to lead poisoning in children, according to DHEC. Despite a recall by the FDA, the product’s 14-month shelf life has led to ongoing availability and consumption. The CDC has received 404 case reports from 43 states since January 26. Symptoms of lead poisoning are often minimal or vague, making detection difficult. A lawsuit filed by Motley Rice law firm alleges that the pouches caused lifelong injuries and the need for continued medical treatment for two toddlers.
