Area Blood Supply Critically Low, Says The Blood Connection

Multiple pleas to the community for blood donations over the past couple of months seem to have been ignored, according to The Blood Connection.

They said that our community is experiencing a severe blood shortage that could last for several weeks if we don’t take immediate action. As the supplier of blood for local and area hospitals, The Blood Connection said it can’t keep pace with the demand.

Donor turnout has significantly dropped as COVID restrictions are lifted and a time when more Americans have been vaccinated. Hospitals face greater need for blood as previously deferred surgeries increases and trauma cases are at historic highs. The Blood Connection stresses that blood can’t be manufactured – it must come from people willing to donate.
