Arrest made in June Arson Case

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Greer man with arson in the case of a burned vehicle that was discovered in June.  Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt gives details.  “A deputy was informed back on the morning of June 19th of a burned truck that was located on U.S. Forest Service property near Brasstown Church Road and Long Creek.  The officer spotted the vehicle off the main Forest Service Road in the woods burnt.  Deputies could not locate a VIN number for the truck due to the severity of the damage but officers were able to determine that the truck was a four-door Chevrolet Silverado truck that was possibly white in color.  The truck was towed from the location where it was found in the woods. In the course of the investigation, officers were able to find a VIN number located in another portion of the truck and after it; investigators were able to determine that the truck was stolen from Pickens County, a case in which investigators in that county were looking into.  Later on, Pickens County authorities made an arrest in the stolen truck case, with the individual arrested being the same individual wanted in Oconee County on arson charges in regards to the burnt truck.  41-year-old Coy Shane Wilson of Greer was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center Monday afternoon on charges of third-degree arson.  According to the warrant, Wilson is accused of setting fire to a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pick-up truck “with intent to damage or destroy by fire.”  Wilson is being held at the Oconee County Detention Center in Walhalla.
