Bat in Mountain Rest Confirmed to Have Rabies

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) confirmed that a bat found near Queens Drive and Rocky Gap Road in Mountain Rest has tested positive for rabies. No people are known to have been exposed at this time. Three cats were exposed and will be quarantined. The Oconee County bat was submitted to DHEC’s laboratory for testing on August 30, and confirmed to have rabies on August 31.
