Be safe with Fireworks

A popular way to celebrate America’s independence is with fireworks. If you plan to celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks please keep safety in mind, stresses Oconee County Fire Marshall and Assistant Fire Chief Shane Gibbs. “Every year we advise people in our community just to be safe with fireworks. Across the nation, thousands of people are hurt and injured due to the mishandling of fireworks.” Chief Gibbs encourages you to leave fireworks to the professionals. “One thing that we like to push is if you want to enjoy fireworks this season go to a professional show that is being put on in our community.” If you plan to shoot off fireworks this year, please follow this safety advice, encourages Chief Gibbs. “Make sure that there is always an adult available to shoot the fireworks. Make sure that you have a bucket of water available or a fire extinguisher in case you have a small fire that breaks out in the yard.” Recent rains should limit potential fires caused by fireworks, concludes Chief Gibbs. “Different parts of the area have been having rain, so we don’t expect a large amount of calls as far as wood fires this year. Just be safety conscience when doing fireworks shows, make sure that everyone stays safe this 4th of July.”
