Beat the Heat at the OCPL

Looking for a place to beat the heat this summer? Well, look no further than your local library. Oconee County Public Library (OCPL) Branch Services Librarian Blair Hinson invites the community to come in and cool off. “We have seen a lot of folks, of course we get busier in the summer time anyway with our Summer Reading Programs, but folks are just coming in, I think, to grab a book, sit down for a little while, read the newspaper, get on our computers and just get out of the heat. This time of year, it’s really hard, there are a lot of great outdoor activities and stuff to do, but it seems like if you don’t get it done by the first part of the morning, it is too hot to really want to get out and do anything. So, we are kind of a refuge, we are seeing a lot of people come in, I think, to just get out of the heat for a little while, take a break and get some water. All of our branches have good air conditioning, a few of our older units, I think, have strained a little bit but we have an awesome Facilities Maintenance Department with our county, they keep us going.” The library is free and open to the community.
