Belton to Merge Police Services with Anderson County Sheriff’s Office in $1.2M Annual Partnership

The City of Belton will come under the jurisdiction of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office through a proposed partnership, as approved by the Belton City Council and Anderson County Council. This agreement aims to address staffing shortages in Belton’s police department. Belton will dissolve its police force, with current officers becoming county deputies. The Sheriff’s Office will provide around-the-clock coverage with a team of 10 deputies, including a sergeant and a lieutenant. The city will pay the county $1.2 million annually for five years for these services. The partnership is set to begin on July 1, pending final approvals.
