Black Bear Sightings Reported in the Upstate, Says SCDNR

Greg Lucas with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Clemson Office tells us that black bear sightings are being reported around the Upstate, and that the sightings will continue to increase as more people move to what officials refer to as “bear country”…

A few things you can do to help prevent black bears from wandering onto your property are to install motion sensor lights; put away your bird feeders; keep your outdoor trash cans as clean as possible, as well as your outdoor grill, since the smell of food tends to attract the beasts.

Should you encounter a bear, DNR Officials say you should make yourself as big and scary as possible, throw things at the bear and scream. Officials added that bear mace is good to keep around, too.
