Boating Safety reminders for 4th of July

Thousands of boaters will be out on the water enjoying the holiday this 4th of July. With approximately 500 people drowning each year from recreational boating accidents, the National Safe Boating Council’s Wear It campaign, reminds boaters about the importance of boating safety and voluntary, consistent wearing of life jackets. Wear It offers a simple reminder that you can still have fun on the water, and look good, while choosing to always wear a life jacket and boating responsibly. Unfortunately, U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in almost three-fourths of recreational boating fatalities, and that 85% of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets. In most cases, parents will ensure their children are wearing life jackets, but feel they themselves don’t really need one.
