Borg Warner expanding Manufacturing Operations in OC

Borg Warner, a global leader in powertrain solutions, is expanding its existing manufacturing operations in Oconee County. The $13.3 million investment is expected to create 50 new jobs in Seneca over the next five years. Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander is excited that Borg Warner is bring more jobs to the city. “On behalf of the City of Seneca, it is great to have Borg Warner call our area home and to have them not only conduct another expansion that will create a ripple effect throughout our community but to also have them lease space at the city-owned Seneca Commerce Center, this is quite the winning combination.” Four automotive suppliers formed Borg Warner Corporation in 1928. Today, as one of the top suppliers for the global automotive industry, Borg Warner operates 58 facilities in 19 countries, employing approximately 22,000 workers worldwide. With a diverse customer base, the company serves a variety of markets, including the passenger car and light truck, commercial vehicle, off-highway, construction and agricultural markets. Borg Warner last announced a South Carolina expansion in November 2013, a $24.6 million investment that created 105 new jobs. With this new expansion, Borg Warner will be remaining in its existing facility, located at 15545 Wells Highway in Seneca. Aimed at increasing the facility’s transfer case production, the expansion will be achieved with the purchase of new machinery and the expected hiring of 50 new employees, which will bring its total local employment to more than 750. “Borg Warner is a great example of a company that’s been able to make the most of all that Oconee County has to offer. We recognize the importance of existing industry and will continue to be an advocate for them for years to come,” said Oconee Economic Alliance Chairman Glenn Buddin. In addition to this expansion, Borg Warner also has recently reached an agreement with the City of Seneca to lease approximately 100,000 square feet within the Seneca Commerce Center, located at 320 Shiloh Road. The company will use the newly leased facility as warehouse space. Hiring for the new positions is anticipated to begin in June 2015.
