Burglary Charge Against Hunnicutt Vacated and Dismissed

Oconee General Sessions Court records show that a plea to burglary associated with the shooting death of an elderly Seneca woman three years ago has been vacated and dismissed.

For Hunter Lee Hunnicutt, that means no added prison time for his role in the March 2019 death of Seneca resident Geraldine Castle.

Hunnicutt, 17 at the time, accompanied co-defendant, Decota Castle Brown, to the Maple Avenue home with the intent to burglarize and steal weaponry.

Brown shot his grandmother three times, prosecutors said, and she died four days later. Brown was found guilty by a jury back in July of last year. Judge Perry Gravely sentenced Brown to 50 years for murder, 15 years for burglary in the first degree, and five years for possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, with each sentence to be served consecutively and without the possibility of parole.

Hunnicutt, who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in February, was sentenced to seven years in prison and given credit for more than one thousand days of time served toward his sentence.
