Busy 2015 for OC Emergency Communications

So you think your telephone rings a lot, how about over 193,000 times in 2015 at the Oconee County Emergency Communications/E-911 Center, explains Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. “Our telephone rang 193,273 times last year. We were actually down in total number of telephone calls; however, calls for service were up more than 10,000 from the previous year. Interesting note, we continue to see land lines being eliminated. In 2013, 80% of our calls were from wireless cell phones and we saw that go up to 84% in 2015 of all our 911 calls coming in from wireless devices. So, we continue to see it more and more and we are actually looking at purchasing some technology this after July that will allow citizens to text information to our Dispatch Center once we get that in place.” In 2015, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office received 86,429 calls for service. Dispatchers spent a total of 5,856 hours on the telephone in 2015 and employees had around 2,750 total training hours during the year.
