Cain named Unofficial Winner of Special Election

Paul Cain will serve the remaining six month of the late Archie Barron’s term on Oconee County Council.  In a special election yesterday, 578 people cast ballots, 309 went for Cain, and 269 went for E. Riley.  In racking up a 40-vote margin, Cain captured four of the six voting precincts. Both Cain and Riley took time out in their post-election comments to give thoughts to Mary Inabinet, whose health condition prompted her husband, Andy Inabinet, to give up his spot as the Republican nominee for the office. His withdrawal left the election to be decided by write-in votes. The full, four-year term for District Three on Oconee County Council is to be decided in next month’s regular primary and November’s General Election.
