Candidates For Duncan’s Soon to be Vacant District 3 Seat in Congress

Kevin Bishop, who has lived in Easley and Pickens County for a quarter of a century, has declared his candidacy for the Third Congressional District of South Carolina. Bishop, who recently retired from his role as Communications Director for U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, is not the only one vying for the seat.

Sheri Biggs, a Salem resident with a distinguished career as a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard and a board-certified family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, announced her bid in January. This followed Congressman Jeff Duncan’s decision not to seek re-election.

Franky Franco of Simpsonville also threw his hat into the ring last Friday, seeking the Republican nomination for the seat. Additionally, SC Representative Stewart Jones, a former Laurens County Council member, has announced his candidacy.

On the democratic side, Chairwoman Jody Gaulin of the Oconee Democratic Party identifies Walhalla resident Frances Guldner as one of two Democrats who will seek their party’s nomination for the 3rd District US House of Representatives: the other being Bryon Best of Laurens.

The Third Congressional District of South Carolina, which is predominantly Republican and rural, encompasses the entirety of Abbeville, Anderson, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens, and Saluda counties, along with parts of Greenville and Newberry counties.

The filing for the November election will commence in March, with the primary scheduled for June.
