Construction job one these days in the Oconee School District is the new career center on highway 11. Actual construction starts in February, with the targeted opening date 2020. But on the heels of the 140 thousand square foot career and technology center, district officials say, is a replacement Seneca middle school. The district is considering as many as three properties in and around the city limits. So, the question that arises is what would become of the existing building and the 22 acres on W-S 4th Street. Dr. Michael Thorsland, district superintendent, says he will recommend that the district raze the building and sell the property for other purposes. Considering the numerous home developments that have cropped up behind Seneca Middle School, another home development would seem a possibility.
