Celebrate Cinco de Mayor responsibly

Today is Cinco de Mayo, which is a holiday observed in the United States and Mexico for the Battle of Puebla where on May 5, 1862, the Mexican Army won an unlikely victory over French forces. Just like any other holiday, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office encourages safe and responsible celebrations, says Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “Just like with any holiday or celebration; do not drink and drive. If you decide to consume alcoholic beverages, we highly recommend you have a designated driver.” Officers will be patrolling roadways looking for impaired drivers, continues Watt. “Our officers are always vigilant as they are on routine road patrol operations in patrolling around the county. If we detect anything that may lead us to believe that someone may be operating a vehicle impaired then we will take the necessary steps and precautions.” Celebrate responsibly with a designated driver this Cinco de Mayo.
