Change to Seneca’s Wounded Warriors Night

Improvements are being made to the City of Seneca’s annual salute to veterans.  In addition to honoring the Wounded Warriors, the city is paying tribute to all veterans on June 24, explains Seneca Events Coordinator Riley Johnson.  “It was a Wounded Warrior Appreciation, so what we are doing is calling it Veterans Appreciation Night.  We are still going to incorporate the Warriors from Camp Lejeune that come in, but we had a chance to meet the folks that head up that organization locally and ask if we could bring it to downtown Seneca.  We have the restaurants downtown, Norton-Thompson Park is just great and they liked the idea.  They liked it so much that the Marines wanted to contribute and be a sponsor of the event.  We are always looking for sponsors to help offset the cost on some of these events that we do and they stepped up to the plate.  It is a great thing, this is our fourth or fifth year, we have done it at Gignilliat Field, just a great turnout and the Marines loved it, but it was so big a venue that when you get 2-3,000 in there it still looked empty.  Therefore, we wanted to make it cozier and let the Marines met some of the local veterans from the other wars.  We want to invite all the veterans out that night.  It is going to run from 7-9pm.  No fireworks this year.  The big parade in to town will still be that Monday and then that Tuesday night we will have the Jeff Vaughn Band entertaining.  It is going to be a great thing and just a way to show our appreciation for all veterans.” The City of Seneca’s Veterans Appreciation Night is planned for Tuesday, June 24 from 7-9pm in downtown Norton-Thompson Park.  The event is free to attend.
