City of Liberty awarded $500,000 Grant

The City of Liberty is receiving state funds to improve the community. South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley sent a letter to government officials this week, informing them that Liberty will receive $500,000. The money is a community enrichment grant from the Community Development Block Grant Program. City officials plan to use the funds for infrastructure and streetscape improvements on Commerce Street in downtown Liberty. The South Carolina Community Development Block Grant Program is designed to provide assistance to local governments in improving economic opportunities and meeting community revitalization needs. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has funded the Community Development Block Grant Program through the state since 1982.
