CITY OF SENECA OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE NEW POLICE CHIEF

SENECA, SC (December 31, 2020) In a joint statement today, Mayor Dan Alexander and City Administrator Scott Moulder announced that the City has promoted Interim Chief Casey Bowling to the permanent position as Chief of Police for the Seneca Police Department.

Bowling won the selection over several qualified candidates vying for the spot as Seneca’s chief law enforcement officer.

Mayor Dan Alexander said that Chief Bowling earned high marks for his leadership ability within the force, his investigative expertise, and for his skills in building solid relationships with the diverse Seneca populations.

“We feel that Chief Bowling is the right fit for Seneca,” Alexander said. “With his local knowledge and love for his community, we have complete confidence that on day one of his service as Chief, he will be working hard to make Seneca the kind of community where we all feel safe and accepted.”

City Administrator Scott Moulder echoed the Mayor’s sentiments, adding, “The City received numerous resumes from qualified applicants. After the interview process, it was evident that Chief Bowling stood out as the type of law enforcement leader this community needed. The Mayor, City Council, and I are excited about working with Chief Bowling for years to come.”

Chief Bowling has twenty-two years’ experience in law enforcement, and has served as Seneca’s Interim Police Chief since the retirement of Chief John Covington in November of this year. His work with the Seneca Police Department began in 2013, and he has served in several capacities such as Investigator, Lieutenant, Captain, and most recently, Interim Chief.

Bowling’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, as well as a degree from the SCLEO/LECC Narcotics Commander School. Bowling brings to his new position a sense of local community as he grew up in the Oconee County area and graduated from Walhalla High School.

Chief Bowling comes to the job with a list of goals for the department: to create a culture of serving, to create leaders within the department, and to increase community support and acceptance with a backbone of transparency and integrity.

Chief Bowling will officially begin his new duties as the permanent Chief of Police on Monday, January 4, 2021.
