Clemson Football Players visit Walhalla High School

A group of Clemson Tiger football players recently visited Walhalla High School motivating students to graduate, explains School District of Oconee County Public Information Officer Dr. Sharon Sanders. “The Walhalla High School Student Success Program is designed to focus on academic and relational interventions; it keeps the students on track for graduation. Our Success Coach there at the school are Kayla Broom, Miguel Resendiz and Gentry Lee Simmons, they work very hard together to build positive school-community partnerships to inspire the students to work hard. So, what they did last week was work with the Clemson University Athletic Department and they invited Clemson football players Alex Spence, Michael Batson, Christian Groomes, Greg Huegel, David Estes and guest speaker Travis Blanks. This was to present to the student quarterly incentive luncheon as a part of their Student Success Program. These encourage students to make good choices throughout their high school years. Former Clemson player Travis Blanks shared his personal story and he challenged students to remember that the decisions you make today will be who you are tomorrow and this was very important to the students; they very much enjoyed him sharing. The players also visited some of the special needs classes as part of their visit and we just really thank the Clemson University Athletic Department for working with us to inspire and to challenge our students to be the best people that they can be, so thank you again Clemson.” During the visit, students were treated to a spaghetti lunch complete with dessert provided by area churches.
