Clemson Mayor betting on Tiger National Championship Win

Clemson Mayor J.C. Cook is not only traveling to Phoenix to watch the Clemson Tiger Football team play in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game Monday night, but he is betting on a Clemson victory. Mayor Cook has entered into a friendly wager with Mayor Walter Maddox, who serves as the Mayor of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, that will raise money for a local non-profit organization and require the loser to wear the opposing team’s colors at a future City Council meeting. Mayor Cook said, “When Clemson wins the game, Mayor Maddox will be sending a check for $100 to the Clemson Community Foundation and he will be wearing a Clemson necktie to a Tuscaloosa City Council meeting next month. In the unlikely event that the Tigers don’t win, I will send a check to his favorite non-profit organization and wear a tie of his choice to one of our Council meetings.” Mayor Maddox has selected the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative as his designated non-profit organization. Mayor Cook said this bet is one way of showing the support of Clemson City Council for the Tiger football team, as well as raising awareness of a local foundation that is doing great work for the Clemson community. Cook stated, “You can be assured that I will be cheering loudly for the Tigers on Monday night, and there will be other Council members attending the game doing the same. We feel that sharing some Clemson orange color with their City Council will be a fun way to celebrate the accomplishments of both teams and the great season that we have enjoyed this year.” Cook added, “I’ll probably consult with Dabo prior to selecting the tie that I send to Mayor Maddox, so that it will have a distinctive Tiger fashion statement.” Foundation Board Chairman Bo Crader stated, “We appreciate Mayor Cook’s selection of the Clemson Community Foundation for the future donation from Mayor Maddox. We would encourage Clemson Alumni to join Mayor Cook’s endorsement of the Foundation and consider making a contribution of their own. It will be a great way to recognize the wonderful season that the Tigers have experienced this year.” For additional information about the Clemson Community Foundation, visit http://clemsoncommunityfoundation.org.
