Clemson painting the Town Purple this month

Two Upstate municipalities are painting their towns purple this month in support of cancer awareness.  By official proclamations by Mayors JC Cook of Clemson and Frank Crenshaw of Pendleton, May 2014 is Paint the Town Purple Cancer Awareness Month. The City of Clemson will be displaying banners and large purple bows on the lampposts on College Avenue between Keith Street and Highway 93, and the Town of Pendleton will have large purple bows on the lampposts on the Square in Pendleton.  Ion addition, CAT Buses and Clemson Police cars will display purple ribbons, and numerous businesses, churches, schools, and homes will display purple bows. The municipalities need help in this awareness and fundraising effort to fight back against this killer disease that claims nearly one in every four.  Purple is recognized as the awareness color for all types of cancer, and Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one-day, cancer will be eliminated. Be a Paint the Town Purple Supporter by displaying one or more Paint the Town Purple Bows and window signs. Designate particular days to wear purple. Display purple bows, ribbons, balloons, flowers, signs, and banners and other temporary, removable purple items throughout the month of May. Offer promotions and other engaging activities, based on the color purple that will increase awareness of the fight against cancer. Ask about a “Paint the Town Purple Donation Can” to put by the register. Relay committee volunteers can pick up donations.  Come celebrate, remember and fight back on May 16 at the Pendleton Elementary School track for this year’s circus-themed Relay For Life of Pendleton-Clemson community-wide fundraising event. Invite all cancer survivors to come with you and yours to enjoy this fun-filled evening of live entertainment, fundraising activities, and special ceremonies.
