Clemson Students to help plan Seneca’s Kellett Property

The Landscape Architecture Class at Clemson University will use a piece of property in the City of Seneca for their next project. For no fee, these students will make suggestions for the Kellett property, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander. “Ed Halbig, who is the Planning Director for Seneca, has actually been talking with professors over the last several weeks and Ed cam to me and said that they had approached him about maybe doing another project here in Seneca. They have done several projects for Seneca, the Blue Ridge Field Project, Buchanan Park and some other things in downtown. But they have another class coming up this fall and the discussion was about the Kellett Property and what we could actually do with that property.” One advantage to Clemson University students working on the project is they can offer a fresh perspective, adds Mayor Alexander. “These are young students at Clemson University in the Landscape Architecture class, they may come up ideas that I would never think about or someone else hasn’t thought about. However, they also will take a lot of the information that has already been gathered and use that to sort of come up with a plan. Each one of these students will have their own plans, they will have their drawings of what they feel like would be a good thing for that piece of property.” This is an academic exercise for the Clemson University students and will be counted as a grade in their Landscape Architecture class this fall semester.
