Clemson University Bans TikTok on Campus Networks

Clemson University has announced that TikTok is no longer accessible through the campus network, effective Monday. This change affects both wired and Eduroam Wi-Fi connections. However, faculty, staff, students, and visitors can still access the app on their personal devices using their private carrier data networks.

The university stated in an email to staff and students that this step is being taken to protect institutional resources and information, as well as safeguard the privacy of devices connected to the Clemson network. The university will continue to monitor updates related to the app and provide updates as needed.

Last year, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster banned TikTok on all state government electronic devices managed by the South Carolina Department of Administration. At least 34 other states have similar bans, prohibiting the use of TikTok on government-issued devices. In South Carolina, Coastal Carolina and Horry-Georgetown Technical College have also banned the app.
