Clemson University to unveil WW I Veterans Stones at Memorial Day Service

A memorial service remembering those who have fallen in service to our nation will be conducted Memorial Day weekend on the Clemson University campus. The 4pm service on May 24 will feature patriotic songs, a 21-gun salute and remarks by Clemson University President Emeritus and World War II veteran Phil Prince. The Clemson Corps is coordinating the event, which will take place at the University’s Scroll of Honor Memorial on Williamson Road directly across from Memorial Stadium. Immediately following the Memorial Day service, a second ceremony will take place to unveil stones inscribed with the names of four World War I veterans recently added to the University’s Scroll of Honor. Oconee County Chamber of Commerce executive director Jillian Lusk tells more about the second ceremony. “My husband, Brock Lusk, finished up his Masters Graduate Degree at Clemson University in History and he did his thesis on Clemson Alumni in World War I. He tracked all the alumni that fought in the Great War. Through that research, he identified Clemson Alumni who lost their lives in battle, including one Medal of Honor recipient. So, Memorial Day weekend they are doing a huge ceremony to show tribute and honor to all of those soldiers that had not previously been recognized.” The public is invited to attend both ceremonies on May 24.
