Clowney wins ESPY award

South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney won the ESPY Award for “Best Play” Wednesday night in Los Angeles for his hit and fumble recovery during the Gamecocks’ Outback Bowl victory over Michigan on January 1, 2013. Clowney’s play earned the No. 1 seed in the bracket of 16 nominees, narrowed down by three rounds of bracket-style online voting that started on June 27. The play in the Outback Bowl capped off a fantastic sophomore season for Clowney that saw him win the Ted Hendricks Award for best defensive end, earn unanimous All-America status, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, school records in tackles for loss and sacks, and numerous other honors.
