Committee Makes Adjustments to Upcoming Popular Seneca Events in Pandemic Era

The City of Seneca’s Events Committee met Thursday afternoon at City Hall and due to the pandemic, decided to combine two of the city’s major events into one celebration – Seneca Music Fest and Independence Day. Both will be held at Gignilliat Field on Saturday, July 3 beginning at 4:00 pm. Events Coordinator Riley Johnson joins us now with details…

Also at the meeting on Thursday, it was announced that a laser show will be held at Norton-Thompson Park on May 27 at 9:00 pm to inaugurate this year’s Memorial Day weekend, and funds in the amount of approximately $8,000 were appropriated for a Juneteenth Celebration.

The committee also discussed Hispanic Heritage Month, but no decisions were made in regards to any events or funding yet. Hispanic Heritage is celebrated from September 15 until October 15, which means it will fall in the next fiscal year; thus the reason no action was taken at yesterday’s meeting.

The first Jazz on the Alley is less than two months away, on April 21st.
