Concerns Regarding July Water & Sewer Bills From Walhalla

The latest monthly water and sewer bills for Walhalla customers include additional information, with some bills being higher and some lower than usual. Brandon Burton, the city administrator and Walhalla representative to the Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority, explained that the rates on the bills were enacted by the OJSRA board on June 5, 2023.

The City of Walhalla chose to pass these rates directly onto the customer, in addition to a small fee charged by the city. This is why there are multiple charge lines on the bill, allowing customers to see exactly where each part of their bill goes. The City of Walhalla collects the money and sends it to OJRSA, which is easier for billing and accounting purposes.

Mr. Burton added that the OJRSA rates cover treatment, system operations and maintenance, and capital improvements, while the City of Walhalla rates cover system maintenance and capital improvements on lines maintained by Walhalla.
