Conversations with Council Happening Thursday in Clemson

The proposed Hub Clemson development is causing concern among some community members due to its size and scale. The development is currently on track, having passed its first reading by a 4-3 vote in the Clemson City Council on April 1. The final reading is scheduled for April 15.

Councilmen Bob Brookover, John Ducworth, and John Fulmer, along with Mayor Robert Halfacre, voted in favor of the development. However, Councilwomen Lillian Boatwright, Alesia Smith, and Catherine Watt opposed it. The development plans include 1,325 beds in apartments and townhomes, 75 new public parking spaces, 674 resident parking spaces, and 10,000 square feet of retail space. The location is set to be the area of Keowee Trail and Abernathy Park in Clemson.

Hub Clemson is set to become the tallest building from Six Mile to Mountain Rest, excluding Clemson University. For comparison, the Oconee Memorial Hospital, the tallest manned building in Oconee County, is six stories tall, while Hub Clemson will be seven stories tall, overlooking Lake Hartwell.

The city of Clemson will host an informal “Conversation with Council” on Thursday, April 11, starting at 6:30 p.m., as stated on the city’s website. The meeting will take place at the Clemson Downs Corley Center at 150 Downs Blvd. in Clemson. Residents are encouraged to attend to voice their thoughts and ideas for the future. No action will be taken at this meeting.
