Corinth-Shiloh Fire Tax Decision: Voters to Decide on Additional Property Taxes

On Tuesday, July 30, voters within the Corinth-Shiloh Volunteer Fire District will decide on accepting additional property taxes.

The Oconee County Council approved a resolution last night certifying a petition with 804 signatures, directing the elections office to schedule a special election for this purpose. The resolution passed 4 to 1, with most council members agreeing it’s a matter for the district’s voters to decide. This vote will solely impact property tax bills in Corinth-Shiloh, potentially increasing by up to 25 additional tax mills annually.

Chief Kevin Christenbury aims to model the district after Keowee Fire Special Tax District, employing full-time firefighters for 24/7 coverage. Council Chairman Matthew Durham acknowledged concerns raised by Councilman Julian Davis but emphasized meeting legal requirements for the special tax district elections, while Councilman Glenn Hart said it should be left to the voters…

All Corinth-Shiloh residents are encouraged to attend informational meetings starting next Tuesday.
