CORRECTION: Stolen Baseball Equipment not insured

A correction to a story run earlier this week about the theft of baseball equipment from a team participating in the 2013 Dixie Boys World Series in Seneca.  The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reported that several bags of equipment were stolen from a mobile trailer belonging to the Sumter, South Carolina team.  The theft occurred while they were staying at the Quality Inn at 226 Hitec Road. WSNW reported that the stolen equipment was covered by insurance and misquoted Seneca Recreation Director Rick Lacey, who clarifies the situation.  “My statement was that I would look into seeing if Dixie, we have medical insurance and I would look into seeing if Dixie had some kind of coverage to cover their equipment.  Well, Dixie has not bought them any equipment.  I was told by one of the parents that they had to go buy new bats, gloves and equipment to be able to play.  I’m sorry about the misunderstanding.” Lacey gives an update on the investigation by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office to find that stolen baseball equipment.  “I have talked to the Sheriff’s Office and they haven’t found any of the equipment yet.  They have been to some of the pawnshops and to the jockey lot just to see if they could run across any baseball equipment.  It is an on going investigation, so we will leave it at that.” The value of the equipment taken is estimated around $9,000.
