County Council Meeting Tuesday Evening

King Asphalt, a road paver from Liberty, is poised to secure a $6.7 million contract for road work in Oconee County. The county council will consider a recommendation to award the multi-year contract for paving 22 miles of county roads at their meeting this week. Out of 13 companies invited to bid, only two responded. The recommendation includes a preliminary list of 31 county roads to be paved, including Fisher’s Cove Road, Cobb Bridge Road, Owens Road, Chattooga Lake Road, Robinhood Drive near Walhalla, and Knox Cove Road.

In other news, the Oconee Detention Center has been granted nearly $219,000 for a full body scanner. The scanner is intended to prevent contraband from entering the jail and its thermal scanning capability can help limit the spread of COVID-19 among the inmate population, which stood at 230 as of yesterday. The county council will consider accepting a Federal Subaward from DHEC for up to $218,700 and approving the purchase of a TeK84 Intercept Body Scanner from Tek84 of Poway, California for $214,650 at their Tuesday night meeting, which is open to the public.
