COVID-19 Cases and Deaths Continue to Rise

The death toll continues to climb in Oconee County and South Carolina due to COVID-19. Yesterday, DHEC reported 210 new confirmed deaths across the state, seven of those were elderly Oconee County residents. On Monday there were 2,130 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in South Carolina, 42 in Oconee.

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is confirming there are now 19 cases of COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7 identified in Georgia.

DHEC said that at least one case of the UK variant has been found in South Carolina, as well. The highly contagious coronavirus variant first detected in South Africa was reported in South Carolina on Thursday of last week, health officials said.
