Crazy Ants may invade SC

Scientists at Clemson University are warning about a dangerous species of ant that could soon arrive in South Carolina for the first time. The Clemson University Media Relations Department reports that the tawny crazy ant is native to South America; however, in 2002 it was found in Texas. Since then it has been found in Florida and Georgia, which scientists say indicates it may invade South Carolina. These ants do not bite or sting, but their overwhelming numbers create problems. In urban areas, they can short out electrical equipment and infest homes. To read more online visit www.clemson.edu.
