Development proposed on Lake Hartwell

A development plan has been proposed for a 325-acre site at Lake Hartwell, according to the Savannah District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  In a press release, the Corps stated that on November 26, it provided a signed consent authorizing the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism to further pursue a proposed sublease with Sanctuary Pointe LLC for a site just off I-85 at Hartwell Lake.  That lease is waiting the approval of the South Carolina Budget and Control Board.  The Board was to have considered it at their meeting on Wednesday, but the vote was moved to their next meeting in mid-January. If approved by the Budget and Control Board, the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Sanctuary Pointe LLC can begin the development phase outlined in the sublease. The development plan provides for a comprehensive resort facility that may include hotels, lodging facilities, golf course, courtesy slips, a resort harbor area and the potential for marina services. If approved the Sanctuary Pointe development would bring hundreds of jobs to the area.
