DHEC reports No Flu Vaccines for Insured Patients

South Carolina residents who have health insurance are no longer eligible to get vaccinated against the flu at county health departments.  The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reports that flu shots are no longer available at county-level health departments across the state for patients covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private health insurance.  This is the first flu season that DHEC is testing this new policy and the department has been advertising the change since last year. The price for a flu shot through DHEC is $25 for adults and $13 for children.  Cases of the flu have already been confirmed in South Carolina this season and doctors encourage residents to get vaccinated now to prevent the flu.
