DHEC Warns Vendors Deltas 8 & 9 Not Allowed in Food

South Carolina health officials have informed hemp growers that Delta-8 and Delta-9 are prohibited in food and drinks. A letter was sent to the hemp industry on Jan. 22, detailing regulations on certain products. Unapproved items include viable hemp seeds, raw hemp leaves, pure CBD Isolate, Delta-8, Delta-9, Delta-10 THC, THC-0, any other derivative, and any hemp product not made in a food-grade establishment. Labels on food and beverages can’t declare they contain THC or Delta-8 and Delta-9, but must list if they contain full-spectrum hemp oil or extract. Hemp extract used as an ingredient may contain up to 0.3 percent THC or the Delta derivatives.
