Doctor Drowned in Lake Hartwell, Coroner Said

A local physician practicing in Anderson, identified as Marshall L. Meadors III, M.D., age 65, was found dead at about 8:00pm Monday evening in Lake Hartwell on Midlake Heights Drive in Anderson. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim died as a result of freshwater drowning possibly secondary to electrocution.

Responders removed the victim from the lake and transported him to AnMed where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The investigation revealed that the victim was found on the bottom of the lake in approximately 8-10 feet of water and had been missing for approximately 30 minutes prior to discovery.

The investigation further revealed some exposed electrical wires on an electrical box providing power to the dock in which the victim was swimming at and an electrical shock may have been a contributory cause of the decedent drowning.

The Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating this incident.
