Donate Artifacts to the OHC

Thanks to generous donations, the Oconee Heritage Center is able to tell the story of the county’s rich culture and heritage. The museum has a vast collection of artifacts, but is always looking for more tells curator and director Leslie White. “We are always looking to add to our collection. We have a large collection and are not able to display everything all the time; we do rotate from time to time when we have special exhibits. It is also available for research, if people are interested in family histories and that sort of thing. We are also building an education collection and often times those have less historical significance or are not museum display quality. But we can use it in public programs with kids and adults that they can handle and interact with.” White tells more about donating an artifact. “We have a process if you have something you are interested in donating. We have an application form, so that we can identify what it is, its historical significance and all its pertinent qualities. Our Collections Committee reviews that application and decides if we want to accept it into our collection or not and after that, it is pretty much just a signature. We have all sorts of stuff, our collection is very expansive. It’s the whole history of Oconee County.” If you would like to donate an artifact to the Oconee Heritage Center, complete the application form online at www.oconeeheritagecenter.org.
