A young Seneca area man was sent to prison this afternoon after a plea of guilty to leaving the scene of an accident last winter when an 11-year old girl was killed near her home. The judge ordered John Melvin Miller Jr. of Seneca Creek Road to serve 4 years in prison and 5 years probation. The office of the circuit solicitor released this statement: “On February 17, 2018, 11 year old Emmalee Layne Budrevich, of Seneca, was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by the defendant John Melvin Miller Jr. The defendant, Miller Jr., who is 20 years old and resides at 177 Seneca Creek Road, Seneca, was driving along Wells Hwy near Owens Road, when Budrevich walked into the roadway. Budrevich was struck by Miller’s vehicle and died due to the injuries during the accident. Miller, who did not stop or remain on scene to provide aid or information, was later charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. This case was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Oconee Sheriff’s Office.”
