Drowning Victim Identified in Anderson County

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office reported recovering the body of a suspect who jumped into the Saluda River on Monday morning. Deputies were attempting to serve active bench warrants to the suspect at 11 a.m. when he ran a stop sign on River Road in Piedmont and collided with another vehicle. Following the crash, the suspect fled on foot and jumped into the Saluda River, swimming around 200 yards before going underwater. The Anderson County Coroner’s Office identified the suspect as 33-year-old Cody Coleman from Piedmont and ruled his cause of death as freshwater drowning. Coleman had been wanted on general bench warrants issued in May for failing to appear in court on a charge of failing to stop for blue lights. Uniform Patrol, Greenville County deputies, K9 units, and Tech Rescue assisted with the search along River Road.
