DSS Director says Foster Families needed in SC

A call is going out for more foster families in South Carolina. The Associated Press reports that on Monday, South Carolina’s Department of Social Services Director Susan Alford told a Senate oversight panel that the lack of foster families means more children go to group homes in South Carolina than in any other state. Alford said the state needs another 1,400 foster families. In addition, she said that the foster family approval process, which could take up to nine months, has complicated the process. Alford said DSS is working to reduce that approval process to four months.
