Duncan: Nuclear Energy Critical in Reduction of Carbon Emissions

US Congressman for South Carolina’s 3rd District Jeff Duncan told a Washington hearing this week that the electric grid instability in Texas is evidence that nuclear power plays a critical role in the quest for clean energy and reducing carbon emissions.

He called attention to Duke’s Oconee plant which is one of the largest in the country, and he also praised Duke’s investment in nuclear energy, and said that most of electricity in the Carolinas comes from a nuclear source.

He said that to replace it with wind or solar power would require more than 100 square miles as opposed to the mere two square miles currently occupied the the nuclear plant, which produces more than 2,500 megawatts of carbon free energy…
