Duncan worried over the dollar effect on Third District

It is one thing for lawmakers in Washington to agree on a budget to avert another shutdown of the government but, according to South Carolina’s Jeff Duncan, it is another when the agreement impinges on some badly needed money by local governments in the Third Congressional District. Duncan said rural counties in his district, such as Oconee and McCormick, are hurt by the elimination of a fee-in-place of taxes that the federal government pays local governments to cover U.S. Forest land in their counties. He estimates Oconee County’s annual loss at $230,000.
