Durham Returning to County Council Next Week After Reinstatement

Matthew Durham, who was recently re-instated, is expected to return to his District Two seat on the Oconee County Council next week. The Council is scheduled to hold a regular meeting on Tuesday night in Walhalla, where there is speculation that Durham may be elected chairman with the support of his colleagues Hart and Mize.

The current chairman, John Elliott, has been in the position since January, after an unsuccessful attempt to re-elect him due to abstentions from Hart and Mize. Durham was under suspension at that time but is now eligible to participate in the Council’s proceedings. Tuesday’s meeting is being held in Council Chambers at the Administrative Complex on South Pine Street in Walhalla, and is open to the public.
